BEFORE I Go any further, I WANT TO CLARIFY SOMETHING:
I'M NOT SAYING GENETICS DON'T MATTER.
I'M NOT SAYING THAT.
and learning about genetics can help you create proper expectations, which is important because expectations are huge. you can suffocate yourself if you have shit expectations.
you can have the best training program and eating plan in the universe, but if you expect your body to change overnight, you aren't going to stick with the training or the eating long enough for results to show.
because you'll look in the mirror, be dissatisfied, and then quit — even though EVERYTHING is properly aligned (aside from your expectations, of course)
“Expectations” aren't WHAT BRINGS MOST PEOPLE TO THE LAND OF GENETICS.
MOST PEOPLE DON'T WONDER and set good expectations. THEY WORRY and destroy themselves before they have a chance to grow.
THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THIS:
YOU CAN'T CHANGE YOUR GENES.
AND TRYING TO CONTROL THINGS THAT CAN'T BE CONTROLLED is FAUX PAS NUMERO UNO. i mean, Epictetus said this a bajillion years ago.
And then examine it by those rules which you have, and first, and chiefly, by this: whether it concerns the things which are in our own control, or those which are not; and, if it concerns anything not in our control, be prepared to say that it is nothing to you.
-Epictetus, The Enchiridion
TIME, ENERGY, ATTENTION. ALL THAT gooey biological junk IS finite. IF YOU WASTE this gooey biological junk on THINGs YOU CAN'T CONTROL, YOU HAVE LESS AVAILABLE FOR junk YOU CAN CONTROL.
(can we end this cultural preoccupation with the weather?)
AND YOU CAN CONTROL SOMETHING.
SOMETHING THAT CAN IMPROVE HOW YOU LOOK, MOVE, AND FEEL.
AND THIS SOMETHING (usually) VASTLY UNDERESTIMATED.
